CostSorter See where your money is going

About CostSorter

A bank statement is a list of facts about your life, written in the worst possible format. This turns one into a picture of where the money went — without asking you to hand that list to anybody.

Why it runs on your device

Most tools like this work by taking a copy of your transaction history onto a server. That means an account, a password, a database, and a promise that all three are looked after. This app skips the whole arrangement: your statement is read in the browser tab you have open, categorized there, and saved — only if you ask — in that browser's own storage.

The honest version of that trade is worth stating. Because there's no server, there's also no backup: your data lives on this device, in this browser, and clearing your browser data removes it for good. Nobody can recover it for you, including us. Export anything you want to keep, and use the app on a device and browser profile you control.

What it costs, and how it's paid for

Nothing. There's no paid tier, no trial and no upsell. The site carries contextual ads, matched to the pages they appear on — not to you, your identity, or your behaviour across other sites.

What it deliberately doesn't do

It doesn't connect to your bank. There's no institutional login, no account aggregation and nothing to authorise — you export the file yourself.

It also isn't advice. It's arithmetic on the data you give it, plus automated guesses about what each transaction was — and those guesses are wrong often enough that you should read them rather than trust them. Nothing it shows is financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice. Talk to a qualified professional before making decisions about your money.
